First flew in Germany in 1917, and only about 320 were made by the end of 1918.
Two wings not enough?
Well this German airplane is for you.
The three wings made this plane more manuverable in the skies, but only slightly.
The most notable pilot of these planes was a German-Polish pilot named Manfred von Richthofen, commonly named as "Blue Max" or even more widely infamous as "The Red Baron"! He obtained 80 combat victories, the British trained unsuccessful special forces to kill him, and even the German government was worried that his death would be a huge blow to moral.
He lived and died in the Great War, killed in his plane by a British pilot during pursuit. His last words were "kaputt".
Unfortunately, his plane was torn apart by souvenir hunters.
